About The Port of Kitakyushu
History and Role
The port of Kitakyushu acted as a node connecting Japan with Asian continent in the old days and played a great role in Japanese modern industrialization. The City of Kitakyushu was the product of the merger of five independent municipalities which were Moji,Kokura,Yahata,Wakamatsu,Tobata in 1963.“Port of Kitakyushu” is the general name of three ports in City of Kitakyushu, that is “Port of Moji”-famous for international trade, “Port of Kokura”-famous for domestic physical distribution and “Port of Doukai”-famous for industry. In correspondence with the earliest containerization (Tanoura container terminal built in 1971), today the port of Kitakyushu has been grown to a base of international physical distribution in west Japan centered on Tachinoura container terminal.
Since the Hibiki container terminal went into service in April of 2005, enhanced services have been provided. |
